How does it work?
This machine is hand powered. The lever on the right side of the machine operates just Like a slot machine handle. A pull of the handle all of the way down and all of the way up is one full lock stitch.
What is the advantage of hand powered over an electric machine?
This machine is completely self-sufficient. The Boss can be clamped to any table, tailgate, or tradeshow table and put to work immediately. There is no need to for any electrical hook-ups, because this machine is completely hand driven.
I am new to sewing, will I be able to use this machine?
Yes. The Boss is ready to sew out of the box, however there is a learning curve to properly adjusting the machine to your project. Learning how to adjust tension, stitch length and foot pressure will help to produce high quality workmanship . We include an owners manual and instructional DVD. We also offer a Toll Free tech line to help to learn the ins and outs of the Tippmann Boss. The simple design of the Boss allows even the beginner to learn to sew with a machine.
What types of material will the boss sew?
The Boss is used for sewing all types of material: leather, rubbers, nylon webbing, cloth, tarp and sail materials up to 3/4" thick.
Will this machine sew thicker than 3/4"?
No, it is not recommended to sew over 3/4" thickness, however there have been individuals who claim to have sewn up to 1". If you have a need to sew over 3/4", this machine is not recommended.
What type of thread should I use with the boss?
Included with the Boss, is size 277 white nylon thread. It is bonded nylon with a left twist. Tippmann carries a full line of colors and sizes. If buying from a different source, make sure you purchase a quality thread. Polyester thread is also used widely with the Boss. Waxed thread and linen thread are not recommended.

5 (Out of 5)Make Shoes With The Boss
This is my plug for the Tippman Boss Sewing machine. This is my 5th pair of custom fit shoes that I made using the tippman boss sewing machine. sewn together entirely with the boss machine. size 138 thread for sewing the uppers and then 277 to sew the uppers to the soles. very minimal adjustment needed between the 2 sizes of threads. I don't get where people I read about on different forums complain about these machines. I think they are nuts cause its a great working machine. It took me 45 minutes to sew the uppers to the midsoles by hand. With the boss i can sew it in 5 minutes.

Dear Ben, (head service tech) Thank you so much for your help and advice regarding the Tippmann Hand Stitcher. It is nice to know there are still companies who will help out as your company does. Just to let you know, Pete from the Identity Store in North Hampton is happy to take me under his care. I believe Pete has been over to Fort Wayne for a stitching tutorial. I would like to say thank you to your company for created such a wonderful design. It has taken a long time to find a leather stitching machine which requires neither a foot pedal nor a foot treadle. Keep up the good work! I look forward to creating lots of new products with my Tippmann.
5 (Out of 5)Well thought out, Well designed machine
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen at Tippmann, I am a maker of gun holsters, knife sheaths, small bags and other products. I deal with heavy weight leathers in 90% of my work, so I decided to by a Tippmann Boss Hand Stitcher about a year ago. I am sure that you have received many rave reviews over the years, since the introduction of the Boss Hand Stitcher, now it is my turn. After a year of putting the machine to the test, it has never failed to do exactly what I needed it to do. It is a well thought out, well designed machine. For its simplicity, it is truly incredible in performance! It is well worth the money! Thank you Tippmann!
5 (Out of 5)You guys are the greatest.
Dear Tippmann, Wow, so weird I wrote to you the day before I needed some help. Make sure you tell Ben (head service technician), he is da man. He figured out my problem out, by just with my description and hearing the problem , over the phone, I just can't believe it. I would also like to thank Bob Tippmann (operations manager) for getting the part out, the same day I called. All Bob needed was my address and he sent out the product I needed. You guys are the greatest.
5 (Out of 5)Couldn't be doing what I am without the Boss
Dear Jim, (Jim Miller Sales Mng.) I don't know if you are the one I need to write to, but it is the only contact to Tippmann in my address book. I bought my Tippmann Boss from you about three years ago, it has paid for itself many times over, but not why I am writing. I can't get any black thread where I live and I am getting down there on my bobbin spool, so I need another. I just got back from your site and set up an account, so the thread is ordered. Looks like this has turned out to be a "howdy" and I sure have grown with your wonderful machine, making accessories for Cowboy Action Shooters around the globe, thanks to Kempf Guns in Indiana and Wilderness and Western Wonders in Cashmere, WA, my two best distributors. Couldn't be doing what I am without the Boss and the great service and input you yourself gave me when I first acquired my Boss. Thanks!
