How does it work?
This machine is hand powered. The lever on the right side of the machine operates just Like a slot machine handle. A pull of the handle all of the way down and all of the way up is one full lock stitch.
What is the advantage of hand powered over an electric machine?
This machine is completely self-sufficient. The Boss can be clamped to any table, tailgate, or tradeshow table and put to work immediately. There is no need to for any electrical hook-ups, because this machine is completely hand driven.
I am new to sewing, will I be able to use this machine?
Yes. The Boss is ready to sew out of the box, however there is a learning curve to properly adjusting the machine to your project. Learning how to adjust tension, stitch length and foot pressure will help to produce high quality workmanship . We include an owners manual and instructional DVD. We also offer a Toll Free tech line to help to learn the ins and outs of the Tippmann Boss. The simple design of the Boss allows even the beginner to learn to sew with a machine.
What types of material will the boss sew?
The Boss is used for sewing all types of material: leather, rubbers, nylon webbing, cloth, tarp and sail materials up to 3/4" thick.
Will this machine sew thicker than 3/4"?
No, it is not recommended to sew over 3/4" thickness, however there have been individuals who claim to have sewn up to 1". If you have a need to sew over 3/4", this machine is not recommended.
What type of thread should I use with the boss?
Included with the Boss, is size 277 white nylon thread. It is bonded nylon with a left twist. Tippmann carries a full line of colors and sizes. If buying from a different source, make sure you purchase a quality thread. Polyester thread is also used widely with the Boss. Waxed thread and linen thread are not recommended.
5 (Out of 5)The Boss is Boss!
I purchased my Boss new. I have built hundreds of holsters, ammo and magazine pouches, butt cuffs for rifles & shotguns, gun belts and other gun leather, plus some bags, purses and belt pouches. On many of the leather forums out there I have seen the Boss bad-mouthed and I take issue with that - I don't get where people complain about the Boss - which is usually "it's too slow." It's hand driven and it plods right along, just as you'd expect a hand driven machine to do. I you want to go fast, but a power driven machine. For what I do - the Boss is Boss!

A great machine for Hobby leather work. I make a few belts and gun belts and would love one of these. Can these be obtained in the UK anywhere. We have a shortage of leather craft machines so everything has to be hand stitched. ps: its a great machine and takes up little room. Thanks Keith Morrison kmorrison@btinternet.com

I used "the Boss" for 15 yrs and loved every minute of it. It is easy to control just where you want a stitch to be. About a year ago I decided to go to the electric age, because I am getting a little more age on me. It has taken me this long to decide to sell it because I just didn't want to let go of it. I now have another machine and am in the market to sell my Boss. Right after I got the new one I sent mine into Tippmann for them to time & adjust it. I haven't used it since but am sure it is good. I'm willing to take half price of a new one if Tippmann will help me sell it.
