Introducing our Featured Customer for the month, Vicki McAllister!

How did you first get started in leather crafting? Re-Ride started out in 2009 as a
way to help foster abused horses. My husband and I fostered several neglected and
abused horses and we were trying to figure out a way to help the local animal shelters
with the costs involved in rehabilitating the horses. The idea of taking used horse tack,
refurbishing it and re-selling it and using the money for foster horses took off. I lost my
husband in 2011 to a farming accident and I have had to learn how to keep our dream
alive. I brought Michaela Erickson on board in 2012 as a general manager and in 2014
added Jordan Wendland for sales. We also have an awesome youngster, Lilia Lund who
helps us out when we’re swamped. With God’s help Re-Ride continues to grow and I
have no doubt that without him, it would not survive. We are now able to make custom
horse tack and dog collars and 10% of every sale goes to animal shelters and 4H kids.
In 2012 we were able to donate a complete tack set to a young lady who had lost her
mother to cancer and wanted to show her horse in the fair. This year we were able to
make a custom pink tack set for a young man who wanted to show his horse in all pink
in honor of his mother who is battling cancer.
What are some of your stories on leather crafting? Some of the things we have been
able to create using the Tippmann include: Custom bridles, breast collars, dog collars,
gun holsters, belts, purses and bags, saddle bags, miscellaneous repairs to saddles and
other tack, etc.
What Tippmann Machine(s) do you have? I have the Tippmann Boss
How long have you had your Tippmann Boss? I have had the Boss for three years.
How did you decide to purchase this/these machine(s)? I had been looking for
something to sew the heavy leather for horse tack and didn’t want to spend several
thousand dollars on a machine. I was able to try a Boss and loved it.
Do you recommend any accessories? I highly recommend the guide for stitching.
Any tips or tricks you recommend for this/these machine(s)? We use a slightly
smaller size thread in the bobbin and that seems to make a prettier stitch. Also, to
keep a nice-looking stitch, we would recommend regular adjustments on the tensioning
What do you enjoy most about leather crafting? We definitely enjoy doing repairs
and making people happy. We also very much enjoy seeing the positive reaction of our
customers when they see their finished custom product.
What else should we know about your leather crafting experience? We are very
hands-on with our customers in that they can decide every aspect of their repairs,
modifications, or custom order.
What is your favorite item that you have made with your machine(s)? A custom
purple Medieval style bridle, and our custom bling dog collars.
